Pupils became delegates for the day, representing Belarus, Zimbabwe, Poland, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
The conference was filled with intense debate, strategic negotiation, and thoughtful collaboration on some of the world’s most pressing challenges. These included the impact of climate change on the refugee crisis and dealing with a cyber-attack on the British military.
As a delegate in the Human Rights committee, I had the privilege of debating the impact of the conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The room was charged with energy as delegates passionately debated the humanitarian crises and proposed solutions to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict. The level of diplomacy and critical thinking displayed was nothing short of impressive, as pupils worked to craft meaningful resolutions.
Though the event spanned just a single day, its impact was profound. Pupils left with a deeper understanding of how the UN works and sharpened their public speaking skills. S4 pupil, Alfie, was awarded Commended in the Environment committee representing Belarus. Beyond the formalities, the conference also sparked new friendships. I am already looking forward to my next MUN conference!
